Founder of Thodex cryptocurrency exchange arrested in Albania

The Turkish officials Ministry reported that Interpol is carrying out the extradition procedure for Fatih Ozer, who fled in 2021 with investors funds.

In Albania, the founder of the Thodex crypto exchange Faruk Fatih Ozer, who was put on the international wanted list, was detained, the Turkish Interior Ministry reported. The identity of the detainee was confirmed by the results of a biometric test. Under the leadership of the Interpol Main Police Department, the extradition procedure for Ozer from Albania to Turkey has begun.

Thodex is a Turkish cryptocurrency exchange that was founded in 2017. In April 2021, its founder suddenly left the country, and the platform stopped working. More than 2,000 Thodex clients have sued her for fraud and theft of millions of dollars.

The Turkish prosecutor’s office launched an investigation after the flight of the head of the exchange, several people were detained. According to Thodex, during the trial, only 21 people, including Ozer’s brother and sister, were charged with creating a criminal gang and fraud. In total, the defendants face more than 40,000 years in prison.

At the end of July, CEO and founder of Titanium Blockchain Infrastructure Services Inc. (TBIS) Michael Alan Stollery pleaded guilty to $21 million in crypto fraud and illegal enrichment. The company raised funds from investors in the US and other countries through a native platform token offering (ICO) scheme.
