A new malicious browser extension has been discovered on the network that sends cryptocurrency to the address of attackers during a transaction.

Crypto exchange KuCoin has warned of the threat of losing funds due to a new malware scam. The platform’s security service has detected an extension for the Chrome browser called “Google Sheets”, the platform’s technical support said. The new plugin masquerades as the Google service of the same name.

If this extension is downloaded to a computer, it will be able to automatically change the recipient’s address to the address of the attackers during a cryptocurrency transaction. In this case, the funds will be sent to the scammers.

How widespread this software has spread, and what damage it has brought is still unknown. Also, it is not reported that the extension can only threaten users of the KuCoin platform.

In July, it became known that in the first half of 2022, the number of cases of hidden mining, which is carried out through vulnerabilities in applications, browsers and their extensions, increased to 66.7 million, which is 30% more than in the first six months of 2021.
