Throughout your undergraduate career at the University of Miami, you’ll be taking conscientious steps toward your future. Throughout my own three years here, my friends and I have developed professionally, found a community and discovered our niche. For those of you enrolling soon, here’s my advice on how to navigate the U and earn the success you deserve!

Professional Opportunities at the University of Miami

At UMiami, opportunities for networking and career development are yours for the taking. With internship and research opportunities, you’ll be ready to take on all that is to come after graduation.

Toppel Career Center

Whether you’re a freshman looking to build your resume, a sophomore preparing for an internship interview, or a senior searching for your first full-time career, Toppel is here to help.

It’s never too early to start networking! The Toppel Career Center hosts a variety of meet-ups throughout the year specific to different industries; such as healthcare, education and communications. In the UShadow program, you’ll have the opportunity to visit local alumni and experience the workplace and the position of your dreams. You can also join the Professional Development Academy, an eight-week intensive program to help you build connections and get ready for the real world.

Connect with companies such as Citrix, Dell, Dow Jones and Lacoste on Toppel’s career management platform and find your next internship, fellowship, and post-grad opportunity. Or, meet with representatives from national organizations in person at the annual Career Expo and industry career fairs. Once you’re an alum, you will continue to grow professionally and achieve big while being a part of the UM community.

City of Miami

The city of Miami is a hub for innovation, no matter your area of study. There are conferences, summits, showcases, and networking fairs held throughout the year. In addition to making professional contacts, these events are a great chance to learn what really matters in your industry, solve problems, and forecast future trends.

If you’re not interested in working a typical 9-to-5, Miami has a booming business scene, with a rapidly growing technology sector. There are plenty of collaborative working spaces to build your ideas, such as LAB Miami and Tech Miami, not to mention UM’s The Launch Pad. You’ll gain business savvy, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a peek into what lies ahead in your future.
