BMW has raised the bar in the upper mid-range vehicle segment with the unveiling of the 2024 5 Series Sedan, showcasing an array of digital innovations and sustainability-driven changes. The all-new sedan, to be known as the BMW i5, is set to lead the sustainable premium mobility space when it hits the global market in October 2023.

Designed with a clear and reduced language, the new 5 Series Sedan exudes sporty elegance and presence. The car’s dimensions have grown in all respects compared to the previous model, with an increased length, width, and height to ensure enhanced comfort and aesthetics. The car’s front view is characterized by a modern interpretation of the twin headlights and the BMW kidney grille, while its athletic body and dynamically stretched proportions are sure to turn heads.

The interiors combine driving pleasure and travel comfort with an innovative flair, redefining the concept of a luxury sedan. The cockpit features a significantly reduced number of buttons and controls due to consistent digitization of functions. The highlight is the BMW Curved Display, a fully digital system consisting of a 12.3-inch Information Display and a 14.9-inch Control Display. Another first is the fully vegan interior, a standard feature in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan.

The all-electric BMW i5 is equipped with the fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology and is launched in two variants. The top-of-the-range BMW i5 M60 xDrive combines high performance with specific design features. Its electric all-wheel drive and two highly integrated drive units generate up to 442 kW/601 hp, enabling acceleration from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a staggering 3.8 seconds.

The BMW i5 eDrive40 variant comes with an electric motor driving the rear wheels, offering a maximum output of 250 kW/340 hp. This model can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in a swift 6.0 seconds.

In line with BMW’s commitment to sustainability, the space-saving high-voltage battery provides a usable energy content of 81.2 kWh. The models also feature the latest version of adaptive recuperation and an intelligent combination of heat pump technology for efficient interior heating and cooling. This contributes to the long range of up to 582 kilometers (361 miles) for the BMW i5 eDrive40.

The BMW 5 Series Sedan marks a major step towards the future of sustainable premium mobility. With the inclusion of its digital services, electric drive technology, and commitment to sustainability throughout its life cycle, the new 5 Series is set to reshape our understanding of luxury sedans.
