02. The Project

2.1 Areas of Focus

Theoretically, this paper draws upon uncertainty management literature guided by the frame of Uncertainty Management Theory (UMT; Brashers, 2001) where the topic of entrepreneurship is rather disregarded.

It first provides a brief overview of the predominating discussion around uncertainty and anxiety of uncertainty in the field of communication.

The second section of literature review presents the discourses that conceive of uncertainty as a salient aspect of entrepreneurship in a field of business and entrepreneurship to shed light on this paper’s investigation — uncertainty management of early stage of entrepreneurs.

Then, I explore what uncertainty that the entrepreneurs encounter and how they manage them, using action research and academic research. I will exemplify the model of Uncertainty Management of Entrepreneurs by using of illustrative case studies, complementing the existing Uncertainty Mangement Theory. Subsequently I will develop a conceptual model for the early stage of entrepreneurs to effectively manage the uncertainty.

A section containing the result, theoretical and practical implications and future research recommendations will conclude the article.
