Nuon: Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC), for Everyone
Some startups tackle flashy problems that grab headlines, while others roll up their sleeves to solve the gnarly, foundational challenges that unlock massive opportunities. This post is about a company that is firmly in the latter category. Today, I’m thrilled to share that Nuon has exited stealth and is making Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC) not just accessible, but ridiculously simple — deployable in mere minutes.
BYOC is a notoriously hard problem to crack. It’s messy, complex, and often pushed to the “too hard” pile by SaaS companies. But Nuon’s founder and CEO, Jon Morehouse, isn’t one to shy away from a challenge. With over a decade of experience building developer-centric cloud platforms, Jon saw a seismic shift during the pandemic — a growing demand for software that runs directly in customers’ cloud accounts. This realization led him to start Nuon in 2021, and the vision he’s executing is transformative.
Let’s face it: the traditional SaaS deployment model is showing its age. It’s expensive, cumbersome, and often riddled with security and compliance headaches. Enterprises are desperate for better solutions, and Nuon delivers. Instead of dragging data into a developer’s cloud, Nuon makes it seamless to move software to customers’ cloud environments, combining the compliance and security of self-hosted solutions with the ease of vendor-hosted software.
Nuon is the world’s first general-purpose BYOC platform. By enabling any software company to offer SaaS experiences directly in customers’ cloud accounts, Nuon is helping providers unlock untapped revenue and access new market segments — all while addressing data sovereignty, security, and other technical challenges. This is the kind of infrastructure innovation that powers the next wave of B2B software.
It’s not just me who’s excited about Nuon’s potential. Richard Artoul, co-founder of WarpStream (which was acquired by Confluent earlier this year), was so impressed that he joined as an investor. The appetite for BYOC is undeniable, and companies that ignore it do so at their peril.
What sets Jon apart is his deep understanding of the problem and his relentless focus on execution. That clarity and discipline have brought Nuon to where it is today: launching with $16.5 million in funding from M12, Mantis VC, Redpoint Ventures, and Uncork Capital.
We’ve been believers from the very start, leading Nuon’s seed round in 2021 and doubling down in its Series A earlier this year. As a board member, I’m proud to support Jon and his team in what I believe could be the start of a generational infrastructure company.
Welcome to the Uncork family, Nuon. Here’s to rewriting the playbook for SaaS deployment and setting a new standard for the AI era.
