#1: P Justin Lewis, Arizona Diamondbacks
I will be conducting interviews with Black baseball players in Minor League Baseball & Major League Baseball to give something different than a scouting report with a bit of background information for our audience. These interviews will solely be featured on Unculture and conduct the same purpose as my articles, which will move back over to my personal Medium page. Baseball would not be the global sport that it is without the participation of the African diaspora, and this interview series exists to celebrate and give visibility to the Black baseball players of all ethnicities and nationalities who have reached professional baseball’s most competitive stages. To roll out this first article on the 74th anniversary of Jackie Robinson integrating Major League Baseball is an honor because I am participating in the sustainment of Robinson’s legacy by writing about the individuals who sustain his legacy in between the lines as professional baseball players.
The subject of this interview is Justin Lewis, a starting pitcher in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization from Gwinnett County, Georgia. Justin Lewis is a graduate of Kentucky University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. He was selected in the MLB Draft once in high school and twice in college, which shows he was on the radar of MLB scouting departments for an extended period of time. The highest level Justin Lewis has reached in his professional career is High-A, and he will most likely reach the upper minors during the upcoming MiLB season.
