We Got SoftBank at our Back!
Today marks an important milestone in Dome9 journey. About a year ago, SoftBank, one of the world’s most knowledgeable and experienced technology and investment powerhouses, had reached out to us seeking to learn more about Dome9 unique approach to cloud infrastructure security. Today, we announced that SoftBank will take the lead in bringing Dome9 technology and innovation to the Japanese market, and while doing so, has also led our new round of funding.
Getting to Yes
“All you need is love”, sing the Beatles. Startups need a lot of love, and this love often comes in the form of validation from the market. We definitely sought validation when we started 6 years ago with a sure feeling that this “cloud” thing is going to be big and that our SaaS based approach would prevail. However, the vast majority of investors along the way thought differently. That’s why we kept our heads down, stayed away from vanity spending and focused on building a great product that would give our customers an exceptional experience. Our customers loved us for it, and gave us the validation we were looking for.
It is exciting for us at Dome9 to get that clear “Yes” from such an experienced and well informed team of investment and business professionals we met at SoftBank. Our journey has kept us humble and focused on our true North, and we will retain our humility and single-minded customer focus in our journey ahead.
Big Potential in Japan
Public cloud adoption in Japan is still nascent. Yet, when you connect the dots and see where things are heading, you realize that it’s just a matter of time before Japanese businesses fully embrace the public cloud. You also see that it will not be a “winner takes all” market (sorry AWS) and that in time, organizations will find themselves using multiple cloud vendors and spanning a widening technological stack. This has been the main driver behind the multi-cloud approach for our security platform, Dome9 Arc. The team at SoftBank shares our vision, and we can’t wait to take on this challenge together to help more and more Japanese enterprises adopt cloud infrastructure in a secure way.

Any fundraising is a cause for celebration — a short one, as you quickly realize you now have to return more money to more investors.
