Action Words Game
I have tried this a few times at my village school near Bhopal and its huge hit with the kids! They feel so energised after playing this game. So playing the game is simple:
The game conductor calls out an action word (e.g., “Jump”), and everyone must do the action.
Here are some action words that one can use:
- Sit down
- Stand up
- Jump
- Cry
- Laugh
- Shout
- Open mouth
- Sleep
- Hands on your shoulders
- Touch your eyes
- Touch your ears
- Touch your hair
- Touch your knees
- Touch your toes
- Touch your elbow
- Brush your teeth
- Wash your hands
- Spin around
- Turn left
- Turn right
- Turn around
- Raise your right hand
- Raise your left hand
- Raise both hands
Here are some variations that one can try:
Action Chain
- The first child calls out an action (e.g., “Jump!”), and everyone does it.
- The next child adds another action (e.g., “Jump! Clap!”), and the group must perform both in order.
Spell It & Do It!
- The game conductor spells out an action word (J-U-M-P), and kids must guess the word before doing the action.
- If they do the wrong action, they are out!
Sequence of Actions
- Instead of performing a single action, students perform a sequence of actions in response to a given word or instruction.
- For example, if the instructor may say turn left — jump — raise your right hand.
- This activity improves listening skills, quick thinking, and coordination.
