So you just ran into the “volume is too large for format” issue. But do not worry, there is an easy fix.

Disk Utility

To start, you need to figure out if the file is too big for the hard drive inserted. If it is, get a bigger hard drive. But if isn’t, follow these steps:

1. Go to spotlight search and search “disk utility”

2. Click on the external drive

3. Hit “view” on the top left corner

4. Click on show all devices

5. Make sure there is only one device under it

6. MOVE ALL FILES OUT OF THE HARD DRIVE, YOU WILL NEED TO ERASE IT

7. Select Erase, and click either of the two options

a. Mac OS Extended (Journaled) — this option will only run on Mac OS

b. ExFat — This option will run on Mac OS and Windows and in my experience, Chrome OS.

8. Erase the hard drive and put the files back on to it

9. Copy the file on to the drive

And there you have it! Its an easy fix, and hopefully it works for you as it worked for me.
