Best fit I’ve seen recently

Sean Evans, host of Hot Ones, came through with a jacket as spicy as the wings he eats when he pulled up to a Cubs game to throw out the first pitch. The Chicago native is sporting a jacket designed by Takashi Murakami, the artist responsible Kanye West’s Graduation album cover as well as an impressive variety of Japanese contemporary art. Evans was in town promoting ComplexCon, scoring this custom varsity bomber jacket while he was at it.

Next Jawn/Last Jawn

Now we’re going to get a few friends involved and play a game called “next jawn/last jawn.” Picking the last piece of clothing you bought and the next one you plan on buying, we’ll describe the items and why we like it. Jack can go first.

Last Jawn: Vans Yacht Club Old Skool

Vans have been, for a long time, my go-to casual shoe. They’re comfortable enough to walk to class in every day and durable enough to wear out on the weekends, but I’ve hesitated to branch out in designs. I had bought the Vans Authentics in Off-White four times in a row up until this point, the same
exact shoe every time. Once they would start to have holes in them, I would just order another pair and start the process of cooking them all over. These ones are different, though. Since they aren’t my everyday shoe, I treat them better and think more about when I wear them, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to wear them into the ground. After all, how’s the fit gonna eat if the shoes aren’t cooked?

Next Jawn: Vintage Coors Light Tee

This jawn isn’t quite “next” in the sense that I have yet to buy it, but I have not yet received it in the mail, so that counts by my standards. Recently, I found myself following a good number of thrifting pages on Instagram. It started with a Penn State themed account and I kept branching out from there, following the same guys general thrifting page and so on. I loved seeing the pieces appear on my timeline, but I never got to them until after they had sold, so I popped on notifications just to get the chance at something. As soon as I saw this shirt posted, I knew it was going to be mine. The gargoyle and web makes for a unique design and the Silver Bullet is a top tier light beer. So, I DMed the account and and copped up. Is it a little lame that I bought a vintage shirt online instead of trying to thrift one myself? Yeah, but thrifting is hard so here we are.

Last Jawn: L.L. Bean 6” inseam Classic Supplex Sport Shorts

The last jawn I copped was this pair of L.L. Bean 6” inseam Classic Supplex Sport Shorts. I hadn’t purchased a pair of sports shorts in about two years and I’ve been attempting to get back into running, so the purchase made sense.

As for the shorts themselves, they are the perfect length in my opinion; a little higher than just above the knee (Got to show off those quads). The shorts are similar in style to the popular Patagonia baggies shorts. These shorts give the same look, but for significantly lower price than the Patagonia doppelgängers which is perfect for a jawn enthusiast on a college student budget.

Theses shorts are the perfect material for running or hiking. They are very lightweight and highly resistant to water and sweat. Then the pièce de résistance — the mesh brief-style built in under-liner. I’ve never owned a pair of shorts with a built-in underwear liner and was a bit unsure about the concept in general. To my delight, I found the liner a very comfortable and freeing which feels great on my runs.

Next Jawn: Supreme Hard Goods T-Shirt

My next jawn will be a one that I’ve had my eye on for quite a few weeks now. I first laid eyes on it while watching a Cody Ko YouTube video where Cody was seen sporting this forest green Supreme Hard Goods T-shirt. I fell in love the color and the athletic stripe across the chest.

I’ve steered clear of the Supreme brand in the past, but this shirt makes me want to dip my toe into the shallow end of this popular brand’s pool of clothes. The relatively more subtle Supreme branding on the shirt is a huge appeal for me and the dark green and light yellow colored stripe combo is a great look that I could see myself wearing pretty often with light wash jeans which have become a new menswear staple for me.

I think it’s about time to pull from my newly acquired birthday jawns budget to pull trig and cop this latest one.

Last Jawn: Adidas Sambas (Orchid Tint color)

Adidas has been having really good sales this whole summer, so I finally took advantage of one a few weeks ago when I bucked up and laid down the debit card digits to purchase a pair of Samba OGs. These are the first pair of this classic shoe I’ve ever owned, though not in a traditional black and white colorway. I went with “Orchid Tint” instead, kind of risky but it paid off. The light pink is very subtle and goes with most outfits. Sambas have been around forever, and for good reason — they’re comfortable, versatile, and fashionable.

Next Jawn: White Sox Throwback Tim Anderson Jersey

Jerseys were, for a while, a staple of a college males wardrobe. It was always a contest who could wear the coolest or the most obscure one to any given day party or tailgate. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said, “Dude, White Chocolate!” to some guy wearing a Jason Williams Sacramento Kings jersey. They’ve fell off recently, though, or maybe my desire to buy and wear them has just dropped as I appreciate other clothes, but this throwback White Sox jersey might just pull me back down into the deep, dark pit of jersey addiction. The jersey pictured is a Michael Jordan number 45, but I’d be getting a Tim Anderson’s number 7 version. Tim Anderson, a player who got in trouble for throwing his bat in celebration and whose Adidas motto is “The game is boring, watch me change it,” is an electric, young shortstop whose jersey I would be happy to wear.
