Dear Undercurrents Press subscribers,

I created this publication to report on everyday stories from communities that are not just underrepresented in mass media, but treated inequitably in every facet of our world’s operations. Now more than ever, during COVID-19, there are so many perspectives beyond my own to share, and I fundamentally believe our world gets better when we learn from each other.

With that said, Undercurrents Press is launching something new: We’re creating a collection of collaborative reflections and news pieces so, one day, we can look back at this time to find a chorus of voices who contributed their stories in support of their communities. Hopefully we’ll make the world a little better in the process.

Dr. Makini Chisolm-Straker is a doctor of emergency medicine at Mt. Sinai in New York City. She is the first author whose piece, COVID-19 Is Our Chance At Rebirth, will be featured as a collaboration on Undercurrents Press.

Her reflection is humbling and informative, and I can’t wait for you to learn from her experiences. You can find her piece linked above or on the Undercurrents Press homepage. More stories will be added soon, and if you’re interested in contributing, please get in touch.

We’re stronger together. Stay safe, and take care.
