3 things fat people are tired of hearing
Please, we’ve heard them enough.
- “You’re not fat, you’re beautiful.”
This implies that fat people can’t be beautiful. Beauty has so much more to do with who you are and not what you look like but even still, I’m beautiful, even if I’m fat! You have no right to tell someone that fat does not mean beautiful.
2. “You have a pretty face.”
Fat people already know that others consider them a menace to society. Anyone who doesn’t fit the societal norm of what a body “should” look like is well aware. Drawing attention to the fact that you think they don’t fit into that box and that you don’t think the rest of them is beautiful, or that the term “pretty” only applies to their face is not necessary.
3. “Are you sure you want to eat that?”
Yes, otherwise it wouldn’t be on my plate.
Other people's personal health is none of your concern unless you are their doctor. And even then it’s on a need-to-know basis. Weight does not determine health.
If you want to have your biases, I can’t stop you. But making fat people feel inconvenient or ugly for existing because of personal preference isn’t fair. Let us exist and have joy. That’s all we’re asking. Thank you.
