Gift To The Skies

Ah, to have a terrace!—
Upon which to pace lazily
As the city churns on
Beneath your gentle footsteps!
To have four walls that
Are not walls enough to trap
You within;
To have an unambitious floor
Beneath, whose only ambition is
To hold you aloft
Like a gift to the skies,
The lonely limit far, far away!—
To breathe an air borne over
Sands and seas that
None else has breathed;
To be like a tree
In whose thoughtful shadows rests
The rest of the world.
