My family celebrates Christmas, so once the last post of the week is out tomorrow, Understanding Crime will temporarily shut down for the holidays.

New posts and articles will return in the first week of January 2024, but there will be some differences.

  1. Your First Five is moving to Explaining Crime, a sister publication of Understanding Crime and new Substack newsletter that I’m launching. Your First Five, with it’s concept-thick journal titles, is a better fit there. (Explaining Crime is the newsletter that helps you explain crime to your audience. Check it out if that interests you.)
  2. Instead of daily Your First Five posts through the week, I intend to publish one new Research Short each week.

Later in 2024, I intend to recruit writers interested in writing Research Shorts. My goal is to publish one new short each weekday by the end of the year.

Stay tuned for more information on that front.
