How Do You Stay in Your Marriage After Betrayal?

How Do You Stay in Your Marriage After Betrayal? And Why Would You?

Discovering your partner’s betrayal is a devastating blow, sending shockwaves through the very core of your being. In the wake of such betrayal, it’s natural to feel lost, angry, and overwhelmed. I sure did. I was a shell of myself for days…weeks…months. But amidst the chaos, there lies a powerful secret that I unearthed for reclaiming your life: focusing on yourself.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Really? After Discovery Day (the day those betrayed learn that their lives will never be the same), I have to watch my partner’s every move. It’s all about them. But hear me out, because I speak from practical, real-world experience.

First and foremost, it’s crucial to recognize that your partner’s actions are not a reflection of your worth or value as a person.

His betrayal is his own, and it is not your fault.

(change the pronoun to reflect your situation.)

With that clarity in mind, it’s time to shift your focus inward, towards your healing and growth.

As you redirect your attention away from your partner and towards yourself, something remarkable happens. You begin to reclaim your power and autonomy, charting a path forward that is guided by your own needs and desires. This shift in focus is not about blaming yourself or dwelling on the past; rather, it’s about prioritizing your well-being and happiness.

For me, this journey of self-focus began with small but significant changes. I stopped obsessing over my husband’s past actions and instead turned my energy towards activities that brought me joy and fulfillment. I immersed myself in my passions, whether it was crafting videos for my channel, creating a new keynote speech, writing articles, or simply indulging in self-care rituals like applying lotion after a hot shower, hunting for a pair of Dr. Marten boots that I didn’t have, getting lost in a book store, or walking in nature overlooking a body of water.

As I began to invest more time and energy in myself, I noticed a profound transformation taking place. I started to feel more confident, more empowered, and more myself than ever before. As I became the best version of myself, not what I thought everyone else wanted me to be, something unexpected happened: my husband began to see me in a new light.

No longer tethered to his past actions or the expectations of others, I emerged as a new, fierce woman—a woman who was unapologetically herself and unafraid to pursue her dreams and aspirations. And as my husband witnessed this transformation, he too began to change as if permission were granted. The betrayal recovery process, while slow and daunting at times, was changing us both.

In my case, I knew I was going to have a new relationship. I concluded that my marriage before Discovery Day was over and there was no going back to the “way it was.” Looking forward into the future, I wanted a man who emersed himself in who he truly was and what he wanted from a relationship and life in general. This was how he could show up for a relationship in his authentic self, just as I was showing up in my authentic self. It just so happened that it turned out to be my husband that I started a new relationship with.

You see, over time, our relationship underwent a profound shift. Our co-dependency dissolved, replaced by a newfound sense of mutual respect, and understanding. Today, we stand together, stronger, and happier than ever before, united by our shared commitment to growth, healing, and our responsible relationship.

Healing from betrayal is possible, but it requires a willingness to prioritize your well-being and growth. By focusing on yourself, you not only begin to heal from the pain of betrayal but also pave the way for a brighter, more fulfilling future — whether that future includes your current partner or not. So, if you find yourself grappling with the aftermath of betrayal, remember this: the more you focus on yourself, the less you dwell on the past, the closer you come to reclaiming your power and your happiness.

That’s all for today. If you’re new here and you’ve come this far, you’ll have to hit the follow button. Trust me, you won’t regret it. Otherwise, you might lose me forever.

Claps go a long way. 25 claps mean nicely done. 100 is a standing ovation.
50 claps mean the world to me and support my work in helping those betrayed not feel so alone. Thank you!
