What DALL·E 2 Thinks My Games Course Looks Like

Huh

I recently asked DALL·E 2 for some graphic elements related to my new university course in game studies/game design (the course works in both ways, since it uses experiential learning techniques) and its free Udemy incarnation.

The image above is actually a composite of two images. The first image is the main central one,

the core essence of my game studies/design course, in an AI mind

In my courses I use a Center-Periphery approach, where I mix together mainstream (the ‘center’) media content with material that is more at the contrarian margins, whether it’s at the global margins — such as work from other countries — or temporal margins — such as old stuff students will immediately think is boring and irrelevant, because it’s old stuff — or at the cultural margins, such as ‘fringe’ works from experimental art etc.

Because of my inclusion of media that is often at the margins of cultural discourses, DALL·E 2 came up with a brilliant image where the whole world was sorta at the center — imagined as dark continents sleeping at night — and the peripheral media was shunted off to the literal margins like sprockets in a film strip, and had a more daylight, woken up feel (does that mean DALL·E 2 is woke???).

To which I say, in my aesthetic response to these images: “Huh.”

As for what my game course actually looks like, here’s how my natural organic brain imagines it:
