The discussion on the Open Contracting Data Standard (OCDS) has been on its potential to act as a mechanism for countering fraud. However, effective use of the data standard has the capacity to have benefits for government procurement that extend far beyond fighting corruption.

OCDS greatly improves the ability to move, compare and analyse procurement data. It also makes record keeping more effective and strengthens the quality of data held on contracts. This is urgently needed by governments, not just to act as a counter-fraud or transparency measure, but as the basis for improving the operational procedures and software used by government.

In our blog, we’ve set out ten key benefits of having good procurement data. If you work in an area of government that you think needs to improve the way it records procurement data, please get in touch. We can help you build a procurement service for the future.
