CoDesign Workshops

UNESCO MGIEP with its Games for Learning and FramerSpace teams, organized a series of CoDesign workshops in June in various parts of New Delhi.

CoDesign workshops were unique learning areas where students took the role of creators. The students were asked to play a story-rich video game.

The two games that we chose for the workshops were Florence and Bury me, my Love.

Intended for Class 9 & 10 students

Florence

Florence is the story of a young woman and the heart-racing highs and heartbreaking lows of her very first love. In this game, creators will explore concepts of identity, conflict-resolution and gender as they journey through her life and relationships.

Intended for Class 11 & 12 students

Bury me, my Love

Bury me, my Love tells Nour’s story as she flees Syria and tries to reach Europe. In this game, creators will gather knowledge about the refugee crisis and explore concepts of migration. This game will also help in understanding biases and fact-checking them.

Format of the workshop

Each CoDesign workshop was nearly 12 hours long split across two days. In those twelve hours, students:

  • played the game
  • discussed the gameplay, features, and themes with other participants
  • understood what game-based learning means
  • chose a theme and created a learning plan — a set of learning objectives — around that theme, and
  • created a course around it by curating resources — like web links, YouTube videos, research papers etc. — and adding activities like multiple-choice questions, match the following, and subjective questions.

They did this without much external intervention using our co-creation platform — FramerSpace.

At the end of those 12 hours, most of the students presented their course to other learners and received feedback.

Here are a few moments that we captured during the event:
