The first time I encountered a Facebook Mom, I was appalled. She was sitting on a live stream that had been rolling for hours, and she was screaming at a little girl in the background. The little girl had spilled a drink, which had ruined the wrapping paper her mother was using for her video.

“Get into your room!” the Facebook Mom screamed. She turned back to the camera. “She does this all the time. She’s a monster. She’s been horrible ever since the new baby came into the picture.”

I clicked on the mother’s profile picture, where I was led to a page with thousands of posts. This mother lived her entire life online and spent entire days posting hundreds of updates covering every single moment of her child’s life.

Thankful for family when you’re dealing with a deadbeat dad, one status update read. My little girl deserves a father. Pay up or I whoop your ass.

It went on and on that way. Thousands of status updates that detailed tantrums, missed payments, children going to the bathroom, taking baths, and being punished. A world of mess for the world to enjoy.
