Unibright and Provide hosted the first Baseline-as-a-Service Demoday on December 10th 2020. A panel discussion featured participants from customers, tech partners and members of the Baseline community. The accompanying landing page offers videos and further material showcasing customer projects, technical insights and much more.

Demos and Material

The event and the landing page show the progress we have made on Baseline-related customer projects as well as our unified technology stack, which is nearing the status of a generally available release candidate.

See the video of our CONA project as a an example, and check out the YouTube playlist of all videos of the Demoday.

Panel discussion

An extended panel discussion led by Rachel Wolfson featured participants from CONA, Fraunhofer IPK, Between, the Baseline Protocol community, and Provide partners Envision Blockchain, Dapps Inc., Nethermind and concircle.

The panel covered various topics around Baseline and the future of blockchain and business integration.

You can find some “best-of” extracts on the different topics here:

  • Intro on the Demoday (Rachel Wolfson, Kyle Thomas, Marten Jung, Stefan Schmidt)
  • CONA (with Andrei Semenov)
  • Integration (with John Wolpert, Stefan Rauch, Daniel Norkin and Dominic Steil)
  • Standards (with Anais Ofranc)
  • Contributors (with Ognjen Kurtic, Myron Rotter and Thomasz Stanczak)
  • Enterprise DeFi (with Rachel Wolfson, Kyle Thomas, Marten Jung, Stefan Schmidt, John Wolpert and Ognjen Kurtic)
  • Outlook on Baseline and blockchain based business integration

The “right” Mainnet

One topic that appeared during multiple tracks and has been addressed in talks with customers as well, is the question of the appropriate mainnet (public blockchain) for baselining.

Kyle Thomas gave his view on the “scaling trilemma”, inspired by existing solutions like Ethereum. Marten Jung and Stefan Schmidt added their insights and customer feedback when looking at productive usage of a public blockchain.

Five main issues have been identified that need to be addressed to enable widespread professional usage of the Baseline approach for distributed business processes in terms of a mainnet:

  1. Transaction costs (need to be predictable and “low”)
  2. Performance (needs to be “sufficient” and predictable)
  3. Data privacy (needs to be addressed within a public mainnet)
  4. Integration (needs to be ensured to existing ERP- and legacy systems “out-of-the-box”)
  5. Business services (need to be provided: identity management, phone-books, registries and more)

Unibright and Provide will address these issues and the integration of fitting solutions as part of their Baseline-as-a-Service offerings. Finding and building the “right” mainnet for customers moving from PoC to productive usage will be one of the key topics for Unibright and Provide in 2021.

Thank you!

The panel discussion received great attention with hundreds of attendees. The event itself, the number of attendees and the feedback and response from the enterprise world surpassed our expectations. We are more confident than ever, that the Baseline protocol and our unique offerings are key for enterprise blockchain adoption, as we see more and more companies engaging.

We understand the demo day as a starting point to show ongoing progress with our products, our clients and the Baseline Protocol. Thanks to all participants, attendees and contributors!
