On the 3rd of April, Unibright (represented by Ruud and Bastian) had the pleasure to join the launch of INATBA — the International Association of Trusted Blockchain Applications, that took place in Bruxels.

In addition to a constructive dialogue among public authorities and regulators to promote a transparent model of governance, the association’s aim are shared principles and interoperability standards to develop guidelines for blockchain technology. Included in the members are Fortune 500 companies, startups, governments and educational institutions. Unibright is a founding member amongst other companies like IBM, Telefonica, SAP, IOTA or the German Stock Exchange.

The opening speech was given by Roberto Viola, Director General, DG Connect from the European Commission with a clear message: to bring blockchain technology into the global mainstream and for more efficient solutions that benefit citizens. Other global players such as the World Bank, the European Investment Bank or the the European Bank for reconstruction supported the establishment of the association by expressing their respective expectations and hopes for INATBA together with the OECD, UNFCCC or the UN Worls Food Program in a later panel discussion.

The current board of INATBA also introduced itself and answered open questions for all participants. The first item on the agenda was the formation of various work groups in which everyone could participate according to their interests.

Mariya Gabriel, the European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society opened the second part of the day with a rousing speech:

“In the future, all public services will use blockchain technology. Blockchain is a great opportunity for Europe and Member States to rethink their information systems, to promote user trust and the protection of personal data, to help create new business opportunities and to establish new areas of leadership, benefiting citizens, public services and companies. INATBA enables members to work together with the European Commission to turn the enormous potential of blockchain technology into better services for citizens.”

It was very motivating and inspiring to be part of such a dedicated group of innovators in the blockchain space. The event ended with a Hashing Ceremony, to celebrate the official launch of INATBA.
