I am currently in my last year at UC Berkeley studying BioEngineering and there are definitely many things I wish I had known or was more aware of when I was just beginning. Looking back, I remember when it was time for me to decide my major and was considering different possible directions of study.

Math?

Boring and probably wasn’t as good at it as I thought I was.

Physics?

Minimal job prospect.

Biology?

Thought it would be another 4 years of being told mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. Wasn’t a fan of that idea.

English?

I loved writing but believed entering a rigid academic program would strip the magic from it.

Bioengineering?

That sounds very cool. I’ll pick that one.

Today, a lot of people have heard of Bioengineering, especially that Biotech is on the rise. But most don’t really know or have a misconception of what it is or what its like to study it as part of an academic program.
