Everything’s melting. Everywhere’s a screen. Everyone’s better than me. Wanna talk it over? We do.

Meet your hosts: Shan & An.

The ‘we’ in the intro is Shannon McDonnell (Partnership Development Executive) and An Le (Content Lead) from UNiDAYS.

The two 23-year-olds (they just made the cut; Gen Z began in 1996) created The BuZZ to share their cares, blow pop culture bubbles, and discuss what’s in the heads of Zs.

The BuZZ is a podcast for Gen Z by Gen Z.

The BuZZ is here to attach voices and faces to UNiDAYS in ANZ.

The BuZZ is a place where Z comes first.

Ear we go

Episodes will run for roughly 20 minutes (the average commute time for students) and cover such topics as:

  • The climate emergency/the environment
  • Social justice issues e.g. gender inequality
  • Politics
  • Popular culture (especially music)
  • Mental health
  • Relationships
  • Life skills
  • Careers

This list is based on insights from both our own research into 3,000 Aussie students and those of major domestic youth publication Junkee.

“This podcast is as an advice-giving, opportunity-providing, and thought-provoking platform for Gen Z,” An says.

“It’s also a chance to get multiple takes from within the same gen,” Shannon adds. “Do all Gen Zs think the same? Does the research out there always get it right? Let’s discuss.”

In pod we trust

Need more convincing that pod is great? No probs. Spotify has some stats for all you non-believers.

In June, the audio colossus released results from a global survey of 4,000 Gen Zs; two points stood out:

Gen Z may appear to be obsessed with their screens, but they value audio as an escape from visual stimulation overload… Audio isn’t just background noise, said 50% of the study respondents; it plays a huge role in their everyday lives.”

“Podcasts that mix lifestyle and politics top the charts. A solid 66% of respondents said they expect brands to be part of the debate, to promote progressive values, and to play a more meaningful role in society.”

Audio is important (if not vital) to Gen Z.

Brands who speak, listen, and participate are important to Gen Z.

Hence, The BuZZ.
