A Fond Farewell

It is said that all good things must come to an end. Here at UniHack, we’re not quite so convinced that things can be so absolute, or as finite, as Geoffrey Chaucer once suggested.

18 months ago, we — Mark, Umesh, and Will — started kicking around an idea for a business that would transform the student experience at University. Almost exactly a year ago, we had our first event — Hack the Economy — and since then we’ve designed and delivered hackathons on everything from the SDGs through to the Internet of Things. We’re proud to say that our work has resulted in 600 students learning new skills through attending our hackathons, and dozens of satisfied clients. We’ve certainly come a long way since our launch.

The startup world is notorious for pivoting, morphing, adapting, and regularly going back to the drawing board for inspiration. We are certainly no exception to that. As the business has grown, we too have grown as individuals.

For Will, UniHack’s in house CTO, this growth has led to the desire for a new adventure. While fully excited by the organisation that UniHack is becoming, and the potential it has to redefine the sector, he nevertheless feels that the time is right for him to turn his hand to something new. As a result, Will is stepping away from UniHack to embark upon a new adventure, details of which we’ll let him share in due course.

Clearly his absence will be felt. His ability to build our platform, take to the stage and deliver training, to event manage hackathons, and his deep commitment to enhancing the student experience will truly be missed.

But, as sad as we are to see him go, we are excited to see what he achieves on his next adventure. Will is looking forward to staying in touch with the UniHack community, and sharing his progress on the path ahead.

Chaucer may well believe all good things come to an end, but for UniHack, this is still just the beginning.

Stay tuned for further updates.
