Great forest fires that hit Australia in 2009, left nearly 230 people dead. But if we see the same events in dozens of decades ago, what happened to Australia is still relatively small in comparison to all of it.

1. Peshtigo Fire (died 2500)

On October 8, 1871 Peshtigo Fire event happened in Peshtigo, Wisconsin. These fires cause many deaths in United States history. Casualties who died many as 2,500 people. Exactly the same happened in the same event also known as "Great Chicago Fire". These events make the events in Peshtigo Fire largely forgotten. On that day, Peshtigo and Chicago fires, the cities hit by the Dutch, Manistee, Michigan, and the same fate befell Port Huron in southern Lake Huron.

2. Kursha-2 (died 1200)

Kursha-2 is the industrial society in the Middle Meshchyora, Ryazan Oblast. built after the October Revolution to exploit local forests. Kursha-2 destroyed by the hurricane of fire on August 3, 1936. This disaster caused human deaths reached 1200 people.

3. Cloquet Fire (died 453)

The 1918 Cloquet fire was a major fire disaster in northern Minnesota in October, 1918. Caused by a spark at the local train coupled with dry conditions. This disaster led to the western Carlton County devastated, Moose Lake, Cloquet, and Kettle River. Cloquet region is the area most damaged by this disaster. This disaster is the worst natural disaster in the history of Minnesota. The total death toll reached 453 who died lost their lives and 52,000 people were injured or displaced, 38 communities were destroyed, 250,000 hectares (1,000 km2) burned, and a loss of $ 73 million in property damage suffered.

4. The Great Hinckley Fire (418 dead)

Hinckley Fire is a major fire that occurred on 1 September 1894 that burned at least 810 km ² area, perhaps more than 1000 km ², including the town of Hinckley and Minnesota. Fire kills hundreds of people, with an estimated minimum number of 418 fatalities. However, some experts believe the actual number of victims who died approaching nearly 800 fatalities. If so, this fire is the second most deadly after the events in the history of Minnesota Cloquet.

5. The Great Thumb Fire (282 dead)

This fire occurred on September 5, 1881, in the Thumb, Michigan in the United States. The fire that burned over a million acres (4,000 km ²) in less than one day, is a consequence of the drought that hit, plus wind, heat, and ecological damage caused by logging. This event, called "the Great Thumb Fire", "The Great Forest Fire of 1881" or "The Huron Fire" which killed 282 people in Sanilac, Lapeer, Tuscola and Huron. Estimates of the damage reached $ 2,347,000 loss
