During any interview process, it’s normal for you to have a few questions. We know interviewing can be stressful, and sometimes it can feel like a full time job itself! We want to take some of that stress away and make sure every candidate goes into our interview process feeling as comfortable and prepared as possible. This interview guide will cover each stage of the process, so you know what to expect along the way.

Throughout this process, don’t be afraid to ask questions and follow up with your recruiter. We are here to help, and our interview teams are great sources of knowledge.

In general, the process will look similar to this:

Now let’s talk about what that means!

Recruiter Phone Screen

Most interview processes at Unity begin by having a phone call with a member of our Recruiting team.

During this call, you will get to share your personal career interests, what you’ve accomplished so far, and a high-level overview of your technical background. We’ll use this information to figure out which opportunity at Unity could be most exciting for you. We’ll also want to share a bit more about Unity as a company and answer any questions you may have.

There’s no need to prepare anything technical for this first step!

After your conversation with the recruiter, we’ll be setting you up to speak with a member of the team for a technical phone screen.

Technical Phone Screen

During the technical phone screen portion of the interview process, you’ll get to speak with the hiring manager or a member of the team you’d be working on. This can be done over the phone or via video, using Zoom. This conversation will consist of questions that dive deeper into your technical skills, and depending on the role- there may even coding exercises.

Pro-tip: If at any point somebody asks you something that you are unsure of- don’t be afraid to ask for clarification. And if you have any questions about what it’s like to work at Unity, please ask those too! This is just as much your opportunity to interview us, as it is our opportunity to interview you.

Online Technical Challenge

If you’re interviewing for an engineering role at Unity, there’s a good chance you’ll be asked to complete a coding challenge before coming onsite for an interview.

Our teams will use one of two tools for your coding challenge:

  • Codility is simply an automated test of your programming skills. When you login, you will be prompted with a few tasks that will ask you to write or correct code. You can run and test your solutions within Codility, or use whatever editor you prefer.
  • Coderpad is a tool that allows you to share your screen with your interviewers while you write and edit code. In your interview confirmation, you’ll receive a unique link that will allow you to access your Coderpad in your browser.

Note: For the Coderpad, you will need to have your computer available and be in a quiet place where you can talk on the phone while completing the exercise.

Onsite Interview

During your onsite interviews, you’ll get to meet face-to-face with the team you’d be working with. Keep in mind Unity has offices all over the world, so you may have a video interview or two in your schedule.

Each conversation you have will be focused on a specific competency. These competencies can vary depending on the role that you are applying for, but they generally focus on technical and soft skills.

Again- don’t be afraid to ask questions! We want to make sure you leave your interview having all your questions answered.

What now?

If you’ve completed everything this far- that’s awesome!

We truly appreciate you sticking with us through the interview process and taking the time to meet with everybody on our team. We hope you’ve finished the interview process with a greater understanding of the role, and that you’re feeling excited about the idea of joining the Unity family.

You should be hearing back from your recruiter within a week of your interviews, but if you think of any questions in the meantime- please feel free to reach out!

While you wait, be sure to head over to our website and read through our blog and recent press. Check us out on Instagram and Twitter too!
