Congratulations on making it to the next step! You’re probably wondering what the process is from here, and we want you to feel as prepared and comfortable as possible. Below is an outline of what you can expect, but don’t be afraid to ask any questions and follow up with your recruiter. We are here to help, and our interview teams are great sources of knowledge.

Please note — the following is our typical process, but it is subject to change based on the role. Your recruiter will go over the process with you when you initially connect!

Our London office

Codility Online Assessment (technical roles only)

This is an at-home test you’ll take on your own time (there is a time limit). The hiring team will review your work once it’s submitted.

Tips:

In most cases, you won’t be required to use a specific language, so choose whatever you’re most comfortable with!

Check the time limit before you begin so you can plan out the best time to complete the assessment without distractions

Don’t cheat! The Codility platform has different measures in place to detect any cheating

Recruiter Phone Screen

One of our University Recruiters will reach out to schedule a phone call to go over the basics — your experience, skill sets, and logistics (ie, location, immigration status, etc.). We’ll also want to share a bit more about Unity as a company and answer any questions you may have. There’s no need to prepare anything technical for this step!

Tips:

When submitting your availability remember working hours are Monday — Friday, 9am-5pm. We love our jobs but also love the awesome work/life balance Unity provides!

When on the call please be sure to be in a quiet space. Insider secret: the quad, on the bus, or walking to class aren’t the most ideal places to ace an interview.

Ask questions! As mentioned, the University Recruiting team is here as a resource to you. Every question is important so ask away!

Hiring Manager/Technical Screen

After you speak with one of our recruiters and if we think you could be a good fit, the next step can vary a bit depending on the role you’re interviewing for. Either way, this is your chance to show off your skills and go deeper into your experiences that would lend themselves to the role. It’s also a great opportunity to ask more role-specific questions! Below are the different screens you might set up for:

Hiring Manager call

  • A conversational phone or video call — think Q&A
  • The hiring manager will want to dive deeper into your skills and past projects you’ve worked on — be prepared with some examples you can speak on!
  • Ask questions! This is a great opportunity to ask more about the team structure and what projects you would work on in this role

Hiring Manager call + Codility Live

  • For this format, you’ll still be on a phone or video call with the manager in addition to working in Codility, a collaborative coding tool that allows the interviewer to see your work as you go
  • You’ll have a chance to ask questions at the end of the call, so come prepared!

Tips

Make sure you’re in a quiet place without distractions

Check that your internet connection is strong and your computer is charged

Test any links about ten minutes before your interview — you don’t want any connection issues to cut into your interview time

Onsite

If the hiring manager agrees that you might be a fit, we’ll set up an onsite or virtual onsite (via Zoom) with other members of the team (typically 3–6 people). This will be a mix of technical and conversational interviews, and you’ll have a chance to ask any questions of your own. Your recruiter will prep you a few days before your interview on what to expect and what the team is looking for.

If you’re interviewing for a technical internship, it’s likely you’ll do some whiteboarding or Codility Live exercises. Don’t get too caught up on getting the right answer — it’s more important that the team sees how you think and work through a problem. And you can ask for help and advice! We don’t expect you to know everything, and that’s what teams are for!

The onsite is a great opportunity to get a feel for the office and culture of the team, so don’t be afraid to ask questions! While we want to get a sense of how you would add to the team, it’s just as important that we are a fit for you, and your conversations with the team can give you a glimpse into daily life here at Unity.

Arriving at the office for in person interviews

One of our Recruiting Coordinators will send you a confirmation email once the interview is scheduled with all the info you need, including directions, arrival information, and the interview panel. Once you sign in, your coordinator will meet you in the lobby and give you a tour of our office before taking you into one of our conference rooms. Your recruiter will check in with you before or after your interview as well!

What to wear

Our office is a casual environment, so wear whatever you’re most comfortable in. A suit is definitely not necessary!

Tips

Practice with common interview questions, but don’t over-rehearse. We want to hear from the real you!

Don’t be afraid to pause and think for a minute before answering a question, whether it’s a coding exercise or conversational.

Be YOU! One of the amazing parts of Unity is the ability to be yourself. Try not to over think the small stuff

Next Steps

After the onsite interview, you can expect to hear from your recruiter with any next steps as soon as all of the feedback is in.

We’re always working to ensure we’re being mindful of your time, so we aim to have as quick of a turnaround as possible. However, we do recruit on a rolling basis and have a lot of roles to fill, so we appreciate your patience with the process! Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you might have throughout your candidacy.

While you wait, be sure to head over to our website and check out our blog and recent press. Check us out on Instagram and Twitter too!
