With the Halloween season on, check the list of 5 Horror Books to read.

Werewolf of Paris

One of the most underrated horror novels of all time, Werewolf of Paris by American author Guy Endore, is the finest werewolf story ever told. Born with a curse, Bertrand, the eponymous werewolf, continuously struggles and searches for love. Even if published in 1933, this novel stood the test of time and is still relevant. It is a must-read novel in English literature.

Carmilla

It is the shortest novel in the list, yet one of the early works of vampire fiction, predating Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The story is narrated by a young woman, Laura, who is preyed upon by her house guest, Carmilla, a vampire. This novel was ahead of its time, exploring many themes, including isolation, feminism, sexuality, mental health, and fear of being stalked.

Pet Sematary

King is known for writing some of English literature’s most acclaimed horror fiction. Pet Sematary may not be as popular as his other famous tales, but it is one of the most frightening tales ever. Driven by grief and denial of loss, what humans would do to bring their loved ones back, and at what cost? What will be the consequences when the dead return? Pet Sematary is a worthy addition to your horror novel list.

Let the Right One In

Arguably the most famous modern vampire story ever told, this novel is so complex with its storytelling that it serves as a metaphor for the darker side of humanity through the fantasy lines of vampire fiction. It centers on the relationship between a 12-year-old boy, Oskar, and a centuries-old vampire child, Eli.

The Woman in Black

Written by celebrated English writer Susan Hill, this gothic horror novel is long considered one of the most frightening ghost stories ever told. The plot revolves around a mysterious supernatural being in black clothing who haunts a small English town. This novel is commonly used as a text in British schools as part of the National Curriculum for English.
