It is a charming Spanish animated film that tackles the sensitive topic of aging with a delightful blend of humor and tenderness. Viewers are often so touched by the story that they overlook the hidden gem of this movie — its creative approach to teaching Spanish to beginners and intermediate learners.

Directed by Ignacio Ferreras and based on the graphic novel by Paco Roca, "Wrinkles" (original title: "Arrugas") takes a sincere and unflinching look at the challenges and joys that come with growing old. The story is about Emilio, a retired bank executive, who shows early signs of Alzheimer's and is sent to a retirement home by his family. In the retirement home, he meets Miguel, a witty and mischievous resident who quickly becomes Emilio's cheering friend. The Hollywood Reporter called this Spanish film one of the most accomplished, regardless of genre.

The Director's approach in depicting Emilio's journey into the retirement home resembles a child's first day at school. Emilio has to make friends, socialize, learn the layout of the buildings, and experience many things for the first time. This approach allows for genuine conversations, cultural insights, and everyday language to be portrayed. It benefits adult beginners and intermediates of Spanish in improving language comprehension.

Wrinkles tackles the challenges of dementia and aging head-on but with a compassionate and authentic understanding of the human condition. The animation style, which resembles hand-drawn sketches, adds a distinctive charm to the film while complementing the narrative's emotional depth. Spanish learners feel inspired by the movie to watch more Spanish-language films and continue learning.

Ignacio Ferreras' film is a masterpiece in the world of animation. It offers a genuine exploration of aging, friendship, and the power of the human spirit while being an excellent tool for teaching Spanish to passionate learners. Every movie enthusiast should watch this movie.
