Vision: Everything starts with a why?
As long as we perceive limitations in the world we inhabit, we will strive to improve the world. Every action that we take, is our attempt to improve the world and bring it closer to our sense of perceived perfection. Every human motivation stems from perceived imperfections. Why do we do things? Why is the UniversalDot Foundation developing decentralized applications? This article clearly answers these fundamental questions.
In our view, in the future societal complexity will continue to increase. This increase in complexity will bring challenges to the institutions around which our society is organized. The current institutions of governance, established long ago by our forefathers, cannot cope with the challenges of tomorrow. These institutions are too slow to evolve and keep up with the technological revolution that is upon us.
Furthermore, large companies and organizations will have increasing challenges in organizing their workforce. The scale and complexity of societies of the future will evolve much faster which will render most of today’s organizations obsolete. Only organizations that are able to use technology to organize themselves will be able to evolve and adapt to the changing times.
This increase in complexity necessitates a new way of organization. Currently, if we look at the largest publicly traded companies, we will see the names of Amazon, Apple, Alphabet, and other technological giants. The reason why technology companies create so much value for society is that technical solutions created once can be scaled indefinitely. As such, technology increases the societal productivity and well-being of the general population.
Technology is simply an amplifier of our current capabilities. If in the past, a single professor was able to teach a maximum of 5,000 students in his lifetime, today through technology, he can reach millions. If in the past, a single doctor could cure 10,000 patients, today with the right technology he can cure billions. Technology allows us to connect faster with the rest of the world and allows us to find solutions to our problems much more efficiently than in the past.
As we can see in our daily life, we rely on apps to do daily shopping, do banking, and meet people. Technology garners more and more power in our lives to the point that if we don’t use any technology in our lives, we will be rendered useless to society. If we extrapolate the present into the future, we can say that the power of technology will continue to increase in the future. In fact, technology holds the potential to completely change our perception of reality. Technology will continue to redefine our lives.
The only problem then becomes, who benefits from the accretion of such technological power. As we all know, power corrupts, so no single individual or group can be entrusted to organize such a technological future. Only a decentralized system, a system in which no one is in control of the technological evolution offers the needed solution. Only decentralized technology can create incorruptible systems around which society can be reorganized.
At the Foundation, we aim to use decentralized technology to create solutions that will enable this technological progress. We strive to re-organize society through decentralized applications. The aim of these applications is to increase societal productivity, freedom, and individual rights.
The first application that we have built is a decentralized application that will allow individuals from all over the world to find work, contribute to visionary founders, and create digital autonomous organizations (DAO’s).
