The UP Alliance Members gathered in San Francisco to discuss the next steps to achieve their goal of bringing the next 100M users into crypto

Yesterday, February 20th, 2019, the members of the Universal Protocol Alliance held their first official council meeting to discuss the initial products being launched and the strategies being implemented to bring the next 100 million users into crypto. The event was attended by the member organizations, media, and leaders in the world of blockchain. We are also thrilled to announce that CertiK — regarded as the leading technology company in smart contract security and auditing — has joined the UP Alliance.

The initial mission of the UP Alliance is to bridge the world of blockchain with the traditional world and to usher the next 100 million users into crypto. Achieving this goal requires the combined expertise, knowledge, and technology of the leading blockchain organizations to build new types of digital assets that will appeal to traditional consumers, while also being accessible and easy to use.

Last night at the Park Tavern SF, the first Universal Protocol Council meeting took place with the leadership of the founding members gathering to discuss the initial products and strategy of the Alliance.

Bittrex International, Uphold, Cred, Blockchain at Berkeley, Brave, BitGo, and now CertiK, began the evening by discussing the current trends in blockchain and crypto. Beginning with the current hurdles impeding wider adoption of the technology, the speakers engaged those gathered in the audience in a serious analysis about the future of the sector.

Attendees of the event included blockchain visionaries such as Brendan Eich, Howard Wu, Pavel Paramonov, Greg Kidd, and Michael Arrington. With an invite list of some of the crypto world’s biggest influencers and journalists, the room was buzzing with excitement.

Following the opening discussion about the future of blockchain and crypto technology, Uphold Co-Founder JP Thieriot provided a deeper dive into Universal Protocol’s grand plan to transform blockchain as we know it. He focused on the new consumer safeguards that the UP Alliance will be introducing, which will attract non-traditional consumers to blockchain. Such features include the recoverability of private keys, inheritability of wallets, and improved transparency so typical consumers can understand how blockchain works for them.

Welcoming CertiK to the Alliance

CertiK is one of the world’s premier formal verification technologies for smart contracts and blockchain auditing. Simply put, CertiK’s allows users to verify smart contracts on the blockchain, and confirm that they have no bugs and are secure from cyber attacks. With more than $1.2B in assets secured globally, CertiK is one of the eminent blockchain securitization firms in the industry.

CertiK was founded by two Ivy League computer science academics in 2016, Zhong Shao and Ronghui Gu. Shao is the Department Chair at Yale University’s Computer Science program, and Gu is an Assistant Professor at Columbia University’s Computer Science program. Ronghui Gu initially came to Yale to study specifically under Zhong Shao. and the two developed the initial Formal Verification technology that we know today as CertiK.

“CertiK is one of the most trusted blockchain security technology companies in the world and is on the cutting edge of research and innovation,” said Dan Schatt, Chairman of the Universal Protocol Alliance and also President of Cred. “Their involvement in the UP Alliance further demonstrates UPP’s commitment to smart contract code integrity, transparency and value substantiation, the foundational elements needed to give everyone the confidence in using universal tokens the Alliance will be minting the coming weeks, months and years.”

Since many blockchains and ledgers are distributed and decentralized, they are inherently more prone to security assaults from nefarious actors. CertiK will contribute their smart contract security to the UP Alliance, as well as their auditing capabilities to the Alliance’s group of tokens that will be released over the coming weeks.

“Bringing the next 100 million users into cryptocurrency is a bold, but necessary mission for blockchain technology. It is a milestone that cannot be achieved alone,” said Daryl Hok, COO of CertiK. “We are honored to join this prestigious group of organizations and excited to use our technology to provide the most rigorous security assurances and facilitate greater adoption.”
