The best questions and answers from August on Worldbuilding Stack Exchange
This month, our two topic challenges have been about weapon-design and “hard-science” (questions which look for answers based in cited and known science, rather than fantasy and speculation). They both generated plenty of interest, and even more good questions.
From the weapon design challenge results, the top post was one by chasly from UK: “ Wooden sticks are the only allowed weapons in a technological society — how far would these weapons have progressed by now?” This went into some detail about how a technologically advanced society only uses wooden sticks as weapons, and queries what creative uses the society might come up with for them. For this, a custom badge:
We also get some pretty good titles, and the weapon design challenge lent itself to them well. One of the best I saw was “How can I liquefy my enemies?”, by HDE 226868. Another custom badge gets awarded:
What I also saw this generate was some good spinoff questions. From HDE 226868's question above, we had another question: “How can I vaporize my enemies?”, by PyRulez. For that, I award two custom badges, one for each user:
The other topic challenge, about “hard-science” questions, gave us some questions which required a bit more thought. One of the best, and the question that occupies the top spot in the results, is “Can stars exist that are not powered by nuclear fusion?”, by HDE 226868 (again). For the top spot, a badge:
Of course, it’s not all about the topic challenges. Just the regular site generates some pretty good stuff too, and one particular post I noticed this month was “You have some cheat codes for real life, but they’re expensive to use. Can they still be used?”, by Thatguypat. Being a thought-provoking post about balancing cost with benefit, I award this post another badge:
That’s all, for this month’s round-up. Next month, we have more topic challenges, more posts, and more badges to award.
