Memories” by Conan Gray was released on April 14, 2022. This song is about trying to get over someone but they keep walking back into your life. This single is the first song of his sophomore album, “Superache” that will come out June 24th, 2022.

In the first verse, Gray begins by saying that it seems like it’s been an adequate amount of time to get over his ex. He feels that he can now look back on the memories between them and be happy. This is true until they show up at his door and all the feelings come rushing back.

In the pre-chorus, he begs for his ex not to ruin all of the progress he made with moving on. The chorus complains that they keep showing up in his life. He wants to move on with his life but they keep coming into his life.

In the second verse, he sings that it will be so hard for him to say goodbye if he keeps spending time with his ex. He says that “it’s hard to find an end to somethin’ that you keep beginning / Over and over again” meaning that he has to put a hard stop to their situation instead of attempting a relationship that will always end up the same way.

My favorite part of the song is this next pre-chorus! Gray sings that he can’t be their friend, lover, or “the reason we hold back each other from falling in love / With somebody other than me.” He wants to move on and completely have them out of their life, if he can’t have them to himself.

After another chorus, we reach the bridge. The music becomes more and more intense building up to him saying that this time they’re finally taking everything they left at his place. The song then finishes with another chorus.

Memories” by Conan Gray is about that last push of getting over your ex. The music video (linked HERE) shows a glimpse into how this feels.
