It’s safe to say HBO’s Euphoria is already a classic. On January 10th, it was announced that its premiere broke the record for biggest digital premiere on HBO Max with over 2.4 million viewers. Characters like Rue, Maddy, Nate, Cassie, Fezco, and new fan favorite Lexi trend on Twitter for hours every Sunday night when the show premieres. With #euphoriaseason2 having 2.9 billion views on Tik Tok and constant discourse about the show on Twitter, it’s hard to escape the phenomenon that is Euphoria. However, if you’ve managed to fall through the cracks and forgotten what has happened on the show, here are a few refreshers that may be important for January 30’s new episode.

Maddy still has ~the tape~.

In the season 1 finale, Maddy comes across a disc at her then-boyfriend Nate’s house and pops it into her laptop. She looks disgusted as she watches, yet she decides to keep the tape. While we still don’t know what she saw, we can speculate that it was Cal Jacobs, Nate’s dad, having sex with a minor. It could be Jules or someone else, but either way Cal Jacobs is cheating on his wife and is not straight, to say the least. We can also speculate that the tape incriminates Nate, possibly for blackmailing Jules. Additionally, Maddy’s best friend Cassie and Nate have been seeing each other behind Maddy’s back. Will she use this tape to get back at him?

Rue and Jules are officially a couple, but…

Elliot sure seems to be on a mission to make it a threesome. In season 2, Elliot and Rue have bonded over cocaine, weed, and saving Rue from near cardiac arrest in the premiere. While it’s apparent that Rue is happy to finally have another friend besides Jules and Lexi, Elliot fuels her bad habits. He also tells Jules that Rue totally lacks sexuality and insinuates that he wants to have sex with the both of them. It’s also important to note that Jules has lost count of how men she’s slept with, but Rue has only had a handful of very forgettable sexual experiences.

Cassie‘s breakup, abortion, and daddy issues have her on a downward spiral.

Many Euphoria fans are livid at Cassie right now, and rightfully so. Still, much of the trauma that Cassie has endured has been brushed under the rug this season. Her breakup with McKay has not been talked about since the premiere. In season 1, Cassie was accidentally knocked up by McKay, resulting in her getting an abortion. Only her mom and McKay know about the abortion, and we haven’t seen her talk about it since. Finally, in Cassie’s episode in season 1, we learn that Cassie’s dad left her family a few years prior. Once again, this isn’t brought up again. Hopefully in episode four Cassie can confront this trauma and stop sleeping with her best friend’s abuser.
