Expectations — Poem

They say “do this, do that”, and won’t pause to reflect.

I am thought too much of and expected to respect,

all that is expected of me, given no time to reject.

And as you know already, I cannot upset.

Though I was hoping they would settle,

for a girl who tried to level,

with the ones who she assumed would reward medals.

But deep inside she knew they would never take their foot off the pedal.
