Rex Orange County is best known for his laid-back and chill-vibes songs. His newest single, “AMAZING” was released just this Valentine’s Day. This song is one of the few released from his upcoming album, “WHO CARES?”
This song was released “for the lovers” this Valentine’s Day. It’s about the unexpected story of love, almost like a timeline of having a crush. In the beginning of the song, the lyrics describe being alone, and that love is found in an unexpected place and unknown time. Then, when you least expect it, you are head over heels for a brand new person.
Moving into the chorus, the music is very light and sweet. He sings, “Don’t change a thing, you are amazing,” relating to the lightheartedness of a new crush. The rest of the chorus continues on with this feeling.
In the second verse, the more serious feelings start to grow. You want to be by their side and you can’t ignore them. There’s a brief instrumental break, which to me, feels like being on cloud nine.
In both pre-choruses, he says that if you searched the definitions of “shame” and “afraid” you would see his face, meaning that he was too scared to act on anything. But, he’s hopeful that things will just work out in the end. The love story ends in a softer variation of the chorus, and sounding happier than ever with this new partner.
