The Altgeld Dairy Queen is Open

It has been an insufferable winter without our precious Altgeld Dairy Queen, but students can rejoice knowing that it will reopen this Friday, February 11th. For years, students have been flocking to Altgeld Hall to get their fix of Illini Blizzards. After tragic weather events caused the location to close in early February, students had been looking to other locations, causing several McDonald’s ice cream machines to become overloaded.

From the official Altgeld Dairy Queen account, students can expect the following changes:

1. “More seating area — One of our biggest complaints was that we did not provide enough places to sit and the places that we available were not good enough for studying. That has changed! We have absorbed the Altgeld Post Office and a few unused instructor offices to completely redesign a cafe-like seating area for anyone that wants to enjoy our Blizzards and study.
2. Free Illini Blizzards this weekend — If you come by this weekend, you can receive one free Illini Blizzard everyday from Friday to the end of Sunday. Limit is 1 per day though!
3. Discounted Illini Blizzards — Going forward, we plan on increasing the student and faculty discount from the regular 25% to a solid 50%! Unlike before, this discount is active all year long and has unlimited daily uses! Note: to get the discount, you must show your iCard.
4. You no longer need a Queen Cream Pass — Although it seemed like a great idea at that time, we are no longer requiring people to purchase the Queen Cream Pass to access the location! Anyone and everyone is allowed to enter. Though, one quick note: anyone found entering our location through the underground tunnels will automatically be reported to camp.”

While it is unclear if the controversial number 15 freeze will return, it’s time for students to get their cream on!
