Where to get help and support
Sometimes we all need a bit of extra help, but we don’t necessarily know where to get it, especially if we’re in a new place. There’s a lot of support at the University, whether you need help with study skills, moving house or even getting on the wi-fi. We want your time with us to be as enjoyable as possible, so make it easy on yourself and take advantage of the support that’s on offer to you.
Student information service
Got a question or need support? Get in touch with the friendly team in the Student Information Service (SIS). You can call them, email them, or visit them at one of four Student Information Points on campus.

Study support
Need a helping hand with revision skills? Confused about referencing? There are so many resources to help you develop your academic skills available from the library. There’s online help, workshops, one to one consultations and drop-in sessions. Have a look at the library website. There’s loads of advice if you’re studying at university for the first time to help you get a flying start.
You can also speak to your academic personal tutor too.
IT service desk
Struggling to get onto the wifi? Having trouble getting to grips with printing? Find useful information to help with these issues on the IT website — and you can log in to report any issues quickly and easily. If you need to speak to someone face-to-face, our team at IT service desk, based in the EC Stoner building, are always happy to help.
Leeds University Union (LUU) Help and Support
No problem is too big or too small for the team of trained advisors at LUU and there’s helpful advice on their website that might answer your questions.
Here are some of the key areas LUU help with:
- Living in Leeds, staying safe and any house hunting or renting problems
- Exam support, appeal procedures or any aspect of studying at Leeds
- Postgraduate and international student specific queries
- Money help, budgeting advice and financial support
- Mental health, relationship and addiction advice
Health, wellbeing and…
The union also has a team of wellbeing ambassadors — why not give their podcast a listen? They discuss health and wellbeing alongside a different topic for each episode.
Disability Services
If you’ve had support before or think you might need support arrangements, you can get in touch with Disability Services — just drop in to Chemistry West for a chat. We can advise on things like assistive technology, accessible facilities and can help if you need to request alternative exam arrangements.
International student office
Starting University can be a daunting time, especially if you’re travelling far away from home. Our international student office can help with immigration and travel advice, as well as orientation sessions to help you settle in to your new home. Get involved with our global community and meet other students from around the world.
Wellbeing support
There might be times when life at University feels like a struggle and you need some extra support. There are a lot of things you can do and ways we can help. There’s free support around the clock from Togetherall, and lots of other self-help resources. Don’t forget to take good care of yourself and your friends.
Accommodation
Are you already thinking about where to live next year? It’s exciting to get out and explore the local community, but if you’re not sure where to start there are lots of places to get help. Unipol is a charity which can help you find accommodation, and don’t forget LUU is there for support if you need it. Wherever you’re living in Leeds. there’s lots of advice for current students on our accommodation website, from safety and security to sorting out your utility bills.
