Sheldon Museum of Art
It’s hard to travel across the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s campuses without getting a taste of the museum’s art. A perfect place for a study break, the on-campus Sheldon Museum of Art has collections of 13,000 artworks with ever-changing exhibits. More than 30 of Sheldon’s monumental sculptures are exhibited throughout city and east campuses.
National Museum of Roller Skating
Lincoln is home to the the largest collection of roller skating artifacts and textual materials in the world! Just a short drive from city campus, you can learn all about the vibrant history of roller skating at the National Museum of Roller Skating.
International Quilt Museum
Located on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s East Campus, the International Quilt Museum houses the world’s largest publicly held quilt collection, dating from the early 1700s to present and representing more than 60 countries.
University of Nebraska State Museum — Morrill Hall
Established in 1871, the University of Nebraska State Museum is the state’s premier museum of natural history. It has four floors of interactive exhibits featuring Nebraska’s past and present biological diversity, and its cultural heritage. When you leave, take part in a Nebraska tradition and get a high five from Archie the Mammoth for good luck!
Midwestern African Museum of Art, Culture and Resource Center
The mission of the Midwestern African Museum of Art (MAMA) is to share, collect, preserve and exhibit the hidden beauty, history and richness of African arts. And since it’s just a short trip from campus, it is the perfect spot to explore in between classes or on the weekend.
Nebraska History Museum
The Nebraska History Museum tells the stories of the many people and cultures that have made Nebraska their home. The museum has over 125,000 objects in its collections, hands-on learning opportunities and rotating exhibits.
Lester F. Larsen Tractor Test and Power Museum
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is home to the officially designated tractor testing station for the United States. At the Larsen Tractor Museum, you can dive even deeper into the world of ag, learning how tractor testing and performance data continue to contribute to more successful uses of tractors in agriculture.
Great Plains Art Museum
As part of the university’s Center for Great Plains Studies, the Great Plains Art Museum works to collect, preserve and research the art and literature of the Great Plains region. Stop in to see the new exhibits and artist in residence or during First Friday Artwalks.
Museum of American Speed
Founded in 1992 by “Speedy” Bill and Joyce Smith, the Speedway Motors Museum of American Speed is dedicated to preserving, interpreting and displaying physical items significant in racing and automotive history. If cars are your thing, this museum is a must-visit in Lincoln!
