Can’t Miss Moments as a First-Time Husker

Welcome to some of the best years of your life—filled with memories, experiences and friendships that will last a lifetime. Getting involved in the Husker community during your first few weeks is a great way to connect with peers and explore opportunities. As you get your start here at Nebraska, here are some notable can’t-miss moments we want you to be a part of!

Attending Big Red Welcome

The doors of endless adventure and resource exploration await you! The week before classes kick off, students are encouraged to attend the series of events designed to introduce new Huskers to fellow students, organizations and traditions at Nebraska. Each day is jam-packed with fun from the new student tunnel walk to the campus street festival. Click here to learn more about Big Red Welcome and the excitement ahead!

Ice Cream — DUHHH!!

While summer may have come to an end, Nebraska heat is here to stay (at least for a few more weeks). Cool off before the semester starts or after class at the UNL East Campus Dairy Store. The Dairy Store first opened in 1917 and is still a fan favorite to this day. Treat yourself to fresh ice cream, you deserve it.

Touching Archie’s Foot

Archdiskidon, better known as Archie, stands proud outside Morill Hall. Coming at 17 feet tall, this larger-than-life mammoth has hung out on campus since 1998 and is our favorite source of good luck. Whether you stop by on your walk to class, on your way into Memorial Stadium, or on your Sunday stroll, don’t forget to touch the bottom of Archie’s foot for good luck!

It’s fall in Nebraska, which can only mean one thing…GAME DAY!

Through these gates pass the greatest fans in college football—you! Cheer on your Husker Football team at Memorial Stadium this season and continue the record-breaking sell-out streak. Here, students, Nebraskans and fans alike join the sea of red to hear the roars of Husker Power shake the city. Football is kind of (definitely) a big deal around here, you won’t want to miss it! Ferris Wheel at Cornstock

Put it on your radar: The Cornstock Festival is a must-attend event for new (and returning) students to capitalize on at the end of October. Live music, food trucks and friends make for an ideal Friday night in Lincoln. End the day with a ride on the Ferris Wheel for a perfect sunset picture and view of our beautiful home. There’s no better way to kick the weekend off than with the Cornstock Festival!

Sorry (not sorry) for filling your calendar this fall! Grab your friends, hallmates or even peers you haven’t connected with yet and enjoy all the wonderful things our university has for you as a first-year student. We are so excited for you, Huskers!
