A quick drive from campus, Holmes Lake offers spaces for picnicking, running, boating, fishing, grilling — and even a golf course!

Antelope Park

A perfect park for an afternoon quietly reading under a tree, Antelope Park is a quick drive (or bike ride) from campus!

Wilderness Park

With expansive trails winding throughout south Lincoln, Wilderness Park is a great place to get lost for an afternoon.

One of the area’s unsung gems, this wildlife refuge just north of Lincoln features trails for biking, hiking and looking out on the beauty of southeast Nebraska.

Mopac Trail

The Mopac is a 25-mile crushed limestone recreational trail for hikers, joggers, bicyclists, horseback riders, cross-country skiers and wildlife watchers. Beginning at 84th Street just south of O St, the trail goes through the towns of Walton, Eagle, and Elmwood, ending in Wabash.

Rock Island Trail

This 6.7-mile trail dissects Lincoln from north to south and connects to several other popular trails winding across the city.

Branched Oak Lake State Park*

The largest lake in eastern Nebraska is a popular spot for fishing, boating and camping.

Stagecoach State Recreation Area*

Another great lake for fishing, boating, camping and getting together with friends, Stagecoach sits just south of Lincoln past Hickman.

Wagon Train Lake State Recreation Area*

If Stagecoach is busy, head over to Wagon Train State Recreation Area, also within 25 miles of Lincoln.

*Entrance to state parks requires a permit, available on a daily or seasonal basis.
