Explore LNK: Staying Cool
Keeping cool during Nebraska summers can be quite the task. Luckily, we found some fun ways to chill out this summer and had to share them with our Husker crew. Read on to see a few of our top spots to beat the heat.
Frozen treats
We’ll never say “no” to ice cream. We obviously love the East Campus Dairy Store for its Husker-themed flavors — but did you know about Lincoln’s other ice cream parlors? Close to City Campus, there’s Ivanna Cone, (402) Creamery, Neveria Arcoiris, Zesto, Neveria San Marcos AND Freezing Thai Rolled Ice Cream. PHEW — that’s a lot of places to indulge your sweet tooth!
Frozen fun
During the summertime we’re always breaking a sweat — so we might as well get some exercise in while we do it! We love to go to the John Breslow Ice Hockey Center for skate nights with pals, or meet up with the Outdoor Adventure Center for one of their Big Red Bike Rides to the Dairy Store.
Arts & cool-ture
It sounds silly, but one of the easiest ways to stay cool is to stay inside. But that doesn’t mean you have to stay home all day in front of the TV! Lincoln is filled with fun arts and culture activities. We recommend checking out Sheldon Museum of Art or taking a class or two at the LUX Center for the Arts.
Chill activities
Stay cool in LNK by taking a tour of one of our awesome attractions. The State Capitol is awe-inspiring and informative, and the Mueller Planetarium and University of Nebraska State Museum are both filled to the brim with engaging scientific exhibits.
Classic cool-downs
You and your pals can also partake in some classic cool-down activities — movies and bowling! Our close-to-campus movie theaters include the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center and the Marcus Lincoln Grand Cinema. And if you want to take your buds out to bowl, Sun Valley Lanes is just a short drive from campus.
We hope these tips keep you feeling cool all summer long! For more info on fun events happening around Lincoln, make sure to follow @UNLincoln on Instagram.
