How to Celebrate Graduation Virtually

This year’s graduation is going to be unlike any other. While we can’t gather together on May 9 at Pinnacle Bank Arena, we want all of our Huskers to celebrate this momentous achievement. Graduation signifies all your hard work — and we want you to be recognized for it! If you’re struggling to find ways to make this day stand out from the norm, here are a few ideas we put together to make it an extra special event:

Host a Zoom celebration

You can host a Zoom graduation party complete with decorations, fun virtual backgrounds and plenty of Husker pride. Send an email inviting your friends and family to the festivities, and encourage them to dress the part by wearing Husker gear or their graduation best. Then put on your cap and tassel, start the call and share your screen so everyone can watch “Go Big Grad: A Graduation Celebration” together!

Dress to impress

Your cap and tassel will arrive in your Go Big Grad box, so you’ll be ready to dress to impress on graduation day! Put it on while you watch the virtual event — Chancellor Ronnie Green will be conferring degrees and leading the ceremonial turning of the tassels. If you’re feeling extra creative, you can even decorate your mortar board. Check out our Pinterest to see a few of our favorite designs and get inspired.

Send announcements

Whether it’s through snail mail or email, sending out graduation announcements is a great way to keep everyone in your life informed about this important milestone. If you send out your announcement digitally, you can also include your Go Big Grad graduation slide — it will be ready for you by May 9!

Write a thank you

As you reflect on all the time and effort you put into earning your degree, see if any mentors, family members or friends come to mind. Maybe they helped you along the way, or they were just someone who cheered you on from the sidelines. Express your gratitude to them with a quick thank you card or email now that you’ve achieved this goal!

A (virtual) walk

Take a walk down memory lane by virtually strolling past your favorite campus sights using Google Maps. Walk past your favorite campus buildings, relive old memories, and remember that you are always welcome back.

Share your Nebraska memories and graduation day festivities with our online Husker community. You can post your graduation slide, sweet Husker graphics, or your favorite Nebraska memory using the #GoBigGrad hashtag. You can even throw on your cap and take a photo of yourself on campus using our virtual backgrounds.

#GoBigGrad

You’ve worked hard for this degree, and although May 9, 2020 might look different than how you expected it to look, we want you to still feel that tremendous sense of accomplishment of this monumental achievement.

We hope that you join us, Chancellor Green, Coach John Cook and other notable Nebraskans as we celebrate you starting at 9 a.m. CT on May 9 at commencement.unl.edu and NET Nebraska for “Go Big Grad: A Husker Graduation Celebration.”

We believe in you and know you will do so much with your University of Nebraska degree, and we are so excited to celebrate this day with you.

Go Big Grad!
