Husker How To: Leaning into Self-Love

--

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! February is a special time to express love and care for friends, family and yourself. Give yourself the gift of self-love and self-care this season with a few (or all) of these ideas.

Watch a sunrise or sunset

Need some alone time filled with peace and quiet? Set some time aside and enjoy the beautiful Lincoln sunrise and sunsets. Plus, the sky makes for the ideal photo op!

Unplug!

Most of us are guilty of mindless scrolling on social media, but do you ever notice how cluttered your brain feels after these social deep dives? Consider putting the phone down and allowing your mind to breathe. Instead, try a coloring book, journaling, a puzzle or a board game.

Connect with friends or family

Connecting with the people you love the most can be a great way to fill your cup. Whether you pick up the phone to call family or ask a friend to hang out, surround yourself with your people this month.

Clean your space

Some say your physical space is a reflection of your mental space. While it may feel like a chore, keeping your living area tidy and clean can relieve feelings of stress and anxiety. Taking care of your mental health is a great source of self-love.

Create a quiet corner

Light a candle, turn your oil diffuser on, dim the lights and grab a blanket. Devote even just a chair or corner in your space where you can relax and unwind.

Treat yourself

This is your sign — treat yourself! Try a new coffee order, stop by your go-to ice cream shop or pick up lunch on your way home after class. Whatever it is, you deserve it!

Have an at-home spa day

Who said you need to leave the house to pamper yourself with a spa day? Staying in, turning on your favorite show while basking in a face mask or painting your nails sounds like a dream.

Cook or bake

Food is good for the soul, so try out a new recipe! If you prefer the chef role, try a new dish for yourself or invite a few friends to taste test too. More of a baker? Whip up a Valentine’s Day tasty treat.

Create a mood board

Mood boards are not only a fun, creative outlet but also an awesome way to set goals for yourself. Seeing the vision for the future is a reminder to keep you on track, plus, it makes for stylish home decor too!

Get productive

Maybe the best way to take care of yourself is by getting things done. Without overwhelming your life and schedule, cross a few things off your list that often get neglected. For example, clean out your email inbox, clear notifications and delete clutter from devices. Whatever it is, your future self will thank you.

Moving your body and staying active is good for the mind, body and soul. Check out the Campus Rec fitness class schedule to cycle, stretch, meditate or dance. Or stroll across campus to get in some steps. Trust us, you’ll feel refreshed afterward.

Get some sleep!

We know it sounds like a no-brainer, because it is! Your body needs sleep and one of the best things you can do for yourself is rest. You’d be amazed how much a good night’s sleep can improve your life! Try it out, you won’t regret it.
