Biofuel: a gaseous, liquid, or solid substance of biological origin that is used as a fuel;

What does it mean? What are the impacts on our world?

Biofuels are produced from renewable sources, and are considered ~90% lower on CO2 emissions. Renewable sources also allow us to manage resources, providing energy to more people in different communities — and electrification is strongly correlated to economic growth, or better lives!

U.S. and BR already have bioethanol being used on its transport sector — as gasoline additive, or either pure; Together, these countries produce ~80 billion liters of ethanol, based on corn and sugarcane crops.

Mainly production is made as “First Generation process” — with starch and sugar being transformed into ethanol by a fermentation process; however, there are already commercial plants operating based on the “Second Generation” process: with “bagasse” and straw also being converted into ethanol — known as cellulosic ethanol.

OK, maybe corn and sugarcane may not be the ideal crop for all countries… so, where are you from? And which crop do you foresee being used as energy source? Corn, sugarcane, wood, Asian palm cake… scientists already found biosolutions to all of them!

Let’s unlock our passion and discuss globally on #UNLEASHLAB2017 and find out the better local solutions for each region!!

The study below shows how biosolutions can increase value to this supply chain: enzymes are used to produce starch-based ethanol, cellulosic ethanol and bioeletricity!
