UNLEASH 2017: SDGs Talents
My name is Hussam, I come from Jordan and I am part of the founding class of UNLEASH Innovation Lab where 1000 bright talents from all around the world will be meeting in Denmark in August to unleash innovative solutions and make the SDGs a reality. We will be discussing innovative solutions, share experiences, what has worked and the challenges we’ve faced, and contribute to reaching the SDGs.
My focus is on Water and on SDG6. In fact, as a background, I have professional experience on transboundary water governance and water security from the European Parliament, the Italian Embassy in Amman, the NGO EcoPeace — Friends of the Earth Middle East, the London Middle East Institute, and from the World Bank, Washington DC. After my studies in international relations at the University of Trieste (Gorizia), at SOAS (London), and at the College of Europe, I have obtained my PhD from the School of International Development at the University of East Anglia (UEA), in Norwich, UK. My PhD thesis focused on water scarcity discourses and transboundary water governance in the case of Jordan. I am currently based in Amman and I am a Visiting Fellow at the Water Security Research Centre and at the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research at UEA, and a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the American University of Beirut.

I have been leading students societies and an active member of the National Union of Students in the UK, organiser of PhD conferences on Climate Justice, a speaker in a variety of academic conferences, and author of several academic articles on water governance. I am looking forward to participating in the UNLEASH Lab in Denmark, and I’m sure we’ll be having great constructive discussions.
