What do you get when you cross hundreds of young innovative minds with a platform to co-create? A plethora of disruptive and scalable next-generation solutions that will not only further the realization towards a more sustainable future but a robust one at that. On August 13th, Denmark will play host to one of the largest congregation of youth working to innovate and disrupt SDG-driven solutions. As part of the talents from Kenya, I am more than honored to join a thousand other brilliant minds working in various capacities to make the world a better place.

It has been three months since I was accepted into UNLEASH and within this time I have had the chance to connect with individuals from different corners of the earth with the same interest as myself. I have come across and been engaged countless platforms seeking to provide opportunities for youth to create solutions to some of the world’s most pressing needs and yet none matches this particular forum. What sets UNLEASH apart is its ability to provide a platform for hands-on co-creation of ideas among peers and its ‘melting pot’ approach that pulls together key players across a myriad of global issues!

So what brings me to UNLEASHLAB? Well, I have a background in Conservation Biology, a course that has allowed me to work in the fields of environmental protection and conservation awareness. I have been involved in assessing different environmental challenges in Kenya as well as implementing grassroots-level solutions to some of these problems. At present, post-consumer waste is posing a great challenge to sustainable production and consumption in Kenya. In addition, the amount of waste generated in both households and manufacturing companies is perceived as both health and environmental risks with only a fraction being recycled as most of it end up in open landfills, waterways and critical wildlife habitats.

I hope to join other talents to cross-pollinate and populate insights and ideas on how best to work with waste as a potential for clean affordable fuel for off-the-grid rural communities and low-income settlements. Together, I believe we can come up with disruptive solutions with lasting impressions at both local and global scales that will go beyond vision 2030.

Looking forward to meeting all talents in Denmark!
