Being young innovator in the Start-up Nation. How hard can it’s be right? Well, extremely hard. A common joke in Israel is saying that we’re all just about do open a start-up or already having one…

It seems like everyone in Israel are having an idea. But not just an idea, THE idea, the one that will revolutionize the whole medicine/agriculture/energy/education/e-commerce/banking world, whatever suits you best. But it’s not just an Israeli problem. In the 21st century, everyone are about innovation, creativity and start-ups, regardless if they are situated in Israel, the U.S., China, India, Germany or Ghana. The problem is not the thinking, but rather the doing. I believe a major part of being a successful entrepreneur is not just popping with a brilliant idea, but also to make all the means to make it come true. And a huge part of making it come true is surrounding yourself with creative and brilliant people, cooperate and make progress. Unleash Innovation Lab 2017 is exactly the platform for not only come up with an idea- but transform this idea to reality. With young people from all over the world, hand-picked one by one according to our own skills and minds, I have no doubt this summer is going to be full of wonderful surprise for mankind.

And mankind defiantly needs surprises. Working together on topics such as zero hunger, eliminating poverty, enabling high-quality and equal education and creating sustainable cities will help us, citizens of this great world, to fix what has already being damaged- and make profound advancement for the benefit of us all. For the 10 days of the program, I’m sure politics will step aside and make room for inspiration. Myself, I’m hoping to make progress with my idea of exploiting organic agricultural waste for local industrial needs. As a Biology Master student, focusing on postharvest losses of fresh produce at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI), I was amazed with the amount of fruit and vegetables being thrown away at the first two stages of production and storage. With significant amounts of fresh produce being lost in the field and during storage due to multiple reasons, especially in developed countries, it’s a shame growers have to lose huge amount of money, time, effort and resources. Finding local diverse uses for this waste, tailored for each area according to its own alternatives and needs, will enable the farmers sell their waste for fair amount and avoid dumping or burning fees, not to mention the environmental damage.

This is way I named my idea as ‘Hidden Treasure’- and I certainly can’t wait for my summer adventure in Copenhagen.
