It’s the Earth Day today. How do you want to celebrate it?

THE EARTH

The Earth is our home, home for 7.6 Billion People and millions species of plants and animals (nobody is really sure about the exact number). We take the water, food, nature for granted. It is here truly for free, even when some people pretend it belongs to them. It doesn’t. It is here for all of us, for the whole humanity.

AND US

Yet, we don’t appreciate all the gifts from the Earth enough. Since we will celebrate the Earth day, are you willing to change your daily habits just a bit and express your gratitude?

Changing your daily habits can be very simple.

It can be very simple to show you care. Like when you take a nice flower and bring it to your dear one. I will share with you some simple ideas how to create a better world and enjoy it on the way.

THE NEED FOR ACTION

Paint your body green and relax on the blanket in front of your Government Office!

Ok, let’s not do that - There are better ways how to show you care and this topic is truly important ;)

USE REUSABLE WATER BOTTLE

Simple as it is, by using a reusable water bottle you will save a lot of plastics.

A million plastic bottles are bought around the world every minute.

And it seems the number will raise 20% by 2021 . By using so much plastics we pollute our environment, drink and eat plastics. If we don’t change our plastic usage, by 2050 we will have in oceans more plastics than fish.

I use for example this glass reusable water bottle, very practical for home use. When I go hiking or during travels I use bigger 1L BPA free travel bottle.

BUY ECO-FRIENDLY PRODUCTS

I like this one very much, therefore, created a project focused especially on this. By supporting this idea and buying eco-friendly products we reduce waste and avoid toxic pollution.

However, we should start with something else — buying less, buying only what we really need.

Then, once we need something, we can choose an eco-friendly option, if there is one available.

We started with a project “Turning waste into a resource” one year ago and created several products (at this stage prototypes) out of recycled textile waste. This is one of my favourite — laptop case. We plan to launch sales during autumn this year — http://en.sobioz.sk/

BUY LOCAL AND BRING YOUR BAG

Support local growers and food producers and always bring your own shopping bag or food containers. You will save a lot of plastics, reduce the carbon print and support descent local jobs. You can also buy your own coffee mug and avoid the use of other disposable products.

Since quite some time I bring my own tote bags while shopping, groceries or even other stuff. I love to say: “No, thank you,” once asked at the shop if I need a single-use plastic bag.

These are only a few simple tips how you can truly celebrate the Earth Day — better than just speak about it and get worry every year we discover this Planet is not enough for our needs.

The problem is not in the size of our Planet or available natural resources, but in our consumption and production patterns.

We are eating even we are not hungry, buying clothes, even having wardrobes crammed full of clothes, using car to move our ass from the sofa to the gym, where we take a selfie as a proof we are doing something about it.

Let’s be more genuine and enjoy the simplicity of more sustainable ways. Sooner we start, the better we end. And we can also inspire others to join us.
